With the success of 2022, we have expanded the training schedule to be more in line with the skill level of the participants and will be offering multiple sessions starting July 5 - Aug. 1. The registration deadline for these programs is June 25. 

Meet Your Instructor : A.W. Michael

A.W. graduated from Southwest Baptist University and in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in History and Health, Physical Education and Recreation and in 2009, completed a Masters in Athletic Administration from William Woods University. A certificated Lifetime Educator, A.W. spent 33 years teaching history/physical education along with coaching spread over four separate school districts. Finishing his final 26 years at Excelsior Springs Middle School, Michael retired in 2012. Over his career, Michael coached at the varsity level in football, volleyball, basketball, cross-country, track & field and tennis. A certified MSHSAA coach and official, A.W. is also a certified PTR professional and was named the USTA Missouri Valley Heart of America Outstanding High School Coach for 2011.

  1. Red Racketeers- 5-7 yrs old
  2. Orange Aces: 8-10 yrs old
  3. Green Lobbers: 10-13 yrs old
  4. Yellow Smashers: 13 + yrs old

Red Racketeers

  • Beginner ages 5-7 years old
  • Novice ages 6-8 years old: returning players

By the end of red ball a child should be able to "rally" with another child. This is the beginner's step to teaching young players the proper movements, hand/eye coordination, and technique to hit the ball over the net and into the court. Advancement into orange ball is a at the discretion of the tennis staff.

Scholarship Program

If you need any assistance to participate in a sports program, please check out the Liberty Parks & Rec Foundation Scholarship Programs.  These scholarships can make LPR programs and activities more accessible by partially covering the cost of current registration fees for youth who qualify.
