Competitive Swim Team and Programs
Working with Liberty Storm Swim Team Coach Laurel Shoger, swimmers will focus on strength training and distance building skills, starts and turns and swim stroke techniques in a smaller, group environment.

Ages 5 and older
- This summer swim team conditioning & maintenance program is designed as an alternative program for Liberty Storm Swim Team past participants. Identical to a coached swim team practice, participants can expect a heavy emphasis will be placed on strength training, building distance, and maximizing the least amount of water resistance. Participants will be provided daily workouts designed to increase cardiovascular output, stamina, & streamlining. Coaching will include the correction of deficiencies on freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. This program is designed for participants who have previous experience on a swim team and have a solid understanding of the four main competitive swim strokes. Each participant will be provided their own lane. Maximum number of participants per practice will be 6 individuals. (Unfortunately, due to social distancing guidelines, space is limited.)
- This three day program focuses on STARTS & TURNS as part of our progressive swim program. Instruction will focus on teaching the proper way to dive off of a starting block, backstroke starts from the water, and successful execution of turns in an attempt to decrease potential disqualifications. Skills will be broken down into a step-by-step sequence which will include verbal explanation and visual demonstrations. Each participant will be provided their own lane. Maximum number of participants per practice will be 6 individuals. (Unfortunately, due to social distancing guidelines space is limited.)
- This program is designed for the child who is interested in joining a swim team but needs small group programming to establish basic swim team fundamental concepts. (Participants must already know how to swim and successfully passed the equivalent of Advanced Novice.) This program is designed around visual demonstration followed up with practical learning and application. Participants will focus on the individual components of each of the four main strokes, flip turns, and starts. This six class program will focus on only one technique per day plus building stamina and distance. Day (1) free style. Day (2) backstroke. Day (3) breast stroke. Day (4) butterfly. Day (5) starts. Day (6) flip turns. Each participant will be provided their own lane. Maximum number of participants per practice will be 6 individuals. Liberty Storm Swim Team Cancelled
With the release of Clay County Public Health Center’s COVID-19 recovery plan for COVID-19, Liberty Parks & Rec (LPR) has been developing plans to slowly and responsibly reopening facilities, amenities and programs.
With concerns and restrictions in place regarding gatherings, LPR has made the tough decision to cancel the upcoming summer season for Liberty Storm Swim Team. LPR values the health and safety of all participants and spectators and given the steps in the CCPHCC’s recovery plan, we would be unable to fully provide the experience that LPR strives for and our customers expect.
Storm staff are currently working on additional small group competitive programming that will allow us to safely provide other outdoor swim opportunities. Staff will continue to evaluate the situation, and notify you of any new programs.
For those that have already registered for swim team, LPR will apply a credit to your "household" in RecTrac. This can be used on future LPR programs and services by any individual in the household. If you would like to receive a refund, please fill out this online refund form and our administrative staff will work with you to process your refund*.
*If you paid with cash or check, your refund will be issued in the form of a check and may take up to two weeks. Credit card payments will be applied back to the credit card used.
