As a part of the America 250 in Liberty celebration of the Semiquincentennial – 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the City of Liberty will plant 250 trees in varieties that can live for the next 250 years! Join us in creating this lasting legacy by adopting a tree to plant in your yard. 

    Complete the form below to be considered for placement of an America 250 tree in your yard to celebrate this significant year in our country. 

    The deadlines to submit interest forms are:

    • March 13 for the April planting day
    • October 2 for the October planting day

    If your requested location is approved for a tree, you will be notified at least two weeks prior to your requested planting day with directions for picking up your tree. You will also be provided planting, watering and future care instructions at that time.

  4. Space Requirements:

    Minimum Clearance: 

    • At least 40 feet from other large trees and structures like houses, as their branches and roots become very extensive. 
    • Ideal Footprint: A 90x90 foot area (8,100 sq ft) provides good space for a mature tree, but even smaller plots (60x60 ft or 3,600 sq ft) can be used with heavy pruning.

    Considerations for Planting: 

    • Large Canopy: The canopy is high and wide, so avoid planting under power lines.
    • Root System: Roots can interfere with foundations, so give them ample room.
       Wildlife: They are excellent wildlife trees, attracting birds and mammals with their large acorns.
