Resources for Starting A Business

All businesses need some form of license or permit to operate within a community. The license or permit may be required from the local, state and/or federal level. Depending upon your particular business, you may need to contact several different agencies to obtain the necessary permits to operate.

City of Liberty

The City regulates certain types of businesses to maintain the health, safety and general welfare of the community. To operate a business in Liberty you must have a City issued business license. Learn more»

Clay County

All businesses, except those with an exempt status, must register with the Clay County Assessor's Office. You access and print a Business Personal Property Registration Form, fill it out and send it in to the assessor's office or go to the Assessor's office and submit it in person.

If your business is offering food, please contact the Clay County Public Health Department who is responsible for regulating the county's Food Code and issuing Food Permits.

State of Missouri

The State of Missouri has established a Missouri Business Portal that is a single point of contact and information for business registration, filings, licenses and permits in order to do business within the State of Missouri.
