Is there a dress code for appearing in court?: Yes, shirt and shoes are required at all times. The following is considered inappropriate: Midriff, shorts, cutoffs, halter or tank tops, undershirts, swimsuits, hats, helmets, and/or obscene printing of material on clothing.

1. Where is the Liberty Municipal Court located?: The court is located in City Hall, 101 E. Kansas St. Liberty, Mo. 64068. Court is held on the second floor in the council chambers. 816-439-4430.

2. Can I get a continuance?: Most cases except traffic accidents and cases with victims or witnesses subpoenaed are allowed one (1) continuance. No continuances the same day as your court date. Contact the court for more information 816.439.4430.

3. Do I need an attorney?: You are not required to be represented by counsel, however, it is your right to retain an attorney.

4. Are municipal court violations misdemeanors?: All charges filed in the municipal court are city ordinance violations; they are not misdemeanors.

5. Can I bring my proof of insurance in before my court date?: No. You must appear in court on the court date and time that was given to you on your citation. With the correct insurance card, your ticket will be dismissed by the City Prosecutor, upon proof shown.

6. How do I get a Public Defender?: Every defendant appearing in court has the right to retain an attorney. If the defendant is facing a possible jail sentence and cannot afford an attorney, the defendant should request to the Judge an appointment of counsel.

7. What methods of payments accepted for fines and costs?: We accept cash, cashier checks and credit cards.

9. Can I get my ticket amended without an attorney?: No. You must retain private, legal counsel to amend any type of traffic violation.

10. Will points be assessed for this ticket?: Points are placed against your driving record by the Missouri Department of Revenue according to the type of offense.
