It is still unlawful to sell, discharge, fire or make use of fireworks in the City, with limited exceptions:
- The discharge of aerial fireworks from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. is lawful July 3 through July 4 on tracts of land three (3) acres or larger. Aerial fireworks are those that, when ignited, are intended to reach over six (6) feet in height.
- The discharge of non-aerial fireworks from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. is lawful July 3 through July 4. Non-aerial fireworks are those that, when ignited, are not intended to reach six (6) feet in height.
- The City may issue special use permits to sell fireworks in the City. The City may issue a special permit for a public display of fireworks by properly qualified individuals, under the direct supervision of fireworks experts, under certain conditions.
This year, before, during and after July 4, the Liberty Police Department requests citizens to obey the fireworks ordinances. The Police Department will be enforcing the fireworks ordinances and violators will be cited and summoned to appear in municipal court, and may be fined.
Fireworks unlawfully used within the City limits are also subject to confiscation and disposal. Please help the Police and Fire departments to make this Independence Day safe by observing the fireworks ordinances.
Fireworks are defined as devices in which gunpowder, chemicals, or other explosives are used to produce a display of lights, varied noises or explosions, on the ground or in the air. This includes most items purchased from fireworks vendors such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, sky rockets, fountains, sparklers, etc.
The safest way to prevent fireworks-related injuries is to leave fireworks displays to trained professionals. Area residents can enjoy the Liberty4thFest, the community's annual fireworks display, which is scheduled for July 4 at William Jewell College. The event will get underway at 6:00 p.m., with the fireworks display beginning at approximately 9:45 p.m. For more information about the event, please visit the City's website at www.ci.liberty.mo.us.
