The City of Liberty announced that Gary Birch, chief of the Liberty Fire Department, will retire August 1.
“Chief Birch has been a great asset to the fire department, this organization and to the community,” said Liberty City Administrator Curt Wenson. “When he joined the Liberty Fire Department in 2003, Chief Birch brought a wealth of experience and knowledge that has resulted in positive changes in our fire and EMS services.”
Birch is retiring after nearly 35 years in fire services, including 27 years with the Kansas City Fire Department.
“We have been very fortunate to have someone with such a wealth of knowledge and experience leading our Fire Department for the last seven years,” Wenson said. “While Chief Birch will be greatly missed, we are very fortunate to have a strong and talented fire department staff that will allow a seamless transition.”
Deputy Chief Mike Snider will serve as interim chief beginning August 2.
