Volunteers will meet weekly at the Community Center for nine weeks to learn about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and gain basic disaster response skills, such as: fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
After completing a course of training, CERT members will have the decision-making, organizational and practical skills to offer immediate assistance to family members, neighbors and associates while waiting for help following a major disaster and to assist emergency responders once they arrive.
The training program will include nine training sessions, beginning March 5 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., that culminate in an 8-hour final exercise on a Saturday. The training program, which will be provided by the Liberty Fire Department, is free. There will be a small fee for each team member's equipment.
Spaces are still available. If you are interested in learning about the Liberty CERT program please contact: Fire Marshal David Walker at 816.439.4310 or dwalker@ci.liberty.mo.us.
