Volunteers will meet weekly for nine weeks to learn about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and gain basic disaster response skills, such as: fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
After completing a course of training, CERT members will have the decision-making, organizational and practical skills to offer immediate assistance to family members, neighbors and associates while waiting for help following a major disaster and to assist emergency responders once they arrive.
The training program will include nine training sessions, beginning March 5 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., that culminate in an 8-hour final exercise on a Saturday. The training program, which will be provided by the Liberty Fire Department, is free. There will be a small fee for each team member's equipment.
Spaces are still available. If you are interested in learning about the Liberty CERT program please contact: Fire Marshal David Walker at 816.439.4310 or dwalker@ci.liberty.mo.us.
