[ARCHIVED] DEA Take-Back Day

Drug Take Back Day , April 30

Saturday, April 30 is a DEA National Prescription Drug Takeback Day. This event aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

These medicine takeback programs also discourage disposing of medications down the toilet or sink. Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove or process many compounds found in medications. When flushed or poured down drains, medications can end up in water systems —streams, rivers, lakes, and drinking water reservoirs.

The Liberty Police Department (LPD) encourages residents to bring any unneeded and/or expired prescription medication to the secure prescription drug drop box at the Liberty Police Station (the Police Department's entrance is off of Missouri Street).

While LPD uses the annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Days to promote responsible disposal of prescription drugs, the Police Station's drug drop box is available 24/7, 365 days a year.  Anything dropped in the box is safely disposed of by the Police Department.
