The City of Liberty has hired Brandon Smith as the new Economic and Business Development Manager. He will join the Liberty team on February 22.

“We are excited to welcome Brandon to the Liberty family,” said City Administrator, Curt Wenson. “He joins our team at a time of robust growth. Liberty is in the process of finalizing several industrial development projects that will bring hundreds of new jobs to our community. Brandon will be responsible for shepherding not only these industrial projects, but also commercial and residential projects that are in the pipeline.”

Smith joins the City of Liberty team with 13 years of business experience, the last five years specifically in economic development with both the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City (EDCKC). He most recently served as the Director of Business Development at EDCKC.

He replaces Karan Johnson, who retired in November 2020, but has served in a consultant capacity during the search for her successor. She will stay on through March to help with onboarding and training.

Smith earned an Economic Development Professional certificate from the Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration from Lincoln University.
