[ARCHIVED] Community Advisory expanded to include City facility closures

In response to COVID-19 concerns, the City of Liberty is expanding steps to ensure the health of our community, staff and making sure we have a plan for continuity of City services in place. Beginning Monday, March 16, all City facilities will be closed to the public through March 31.

  • Liberty City Hall
  • Liberty Community Center (including all facilities, programs and activities)
  • Liberty Animal Shelter (External Animal Control efforts will be limited to emergency calls only)
  • All Silver Center programs and lunches
  • All trips on the Liberty Access Bus
  • Events at the Liberty Performing Arts Theatre
  • All Liberty Parks & Rec  (LPR) youth sports practices and games
  • All LPR adult sports games
  • Tournaments and LPR leagues at the Capitol Federal® Sports Complex of Liberty
  • Parks shelter rentals
  • Tours of and events at City facilities, including Fire and Police Stations, Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant, etc.
  • Municipal Court (March 19 & 20 court cases will be moved August 13 & 14)
  • Scheduled board and commission meetings without necessary action items will be postponed until further notice.

The Liberty Police Department lobby entrance on Missouri Street will remain open.

During this time the City encourages residents and customers to take advantage of online City services including payment of City utility bills and court fines. Pay your utility bill online at The City is suspending water disconnects for non-payments until further notice. We encourage all customers to make regular payments as they are able. All regular late fees and fines will still be applied during this time.

Scheduled board and commission meetings without necessary action items will be postponed until further notice. 

The City of Liberty also is postponing or canceling events with more than 250 persons and encourages individuals to avoid events of this size. 

The City is working across all departments and with the professionals at the Clay County Public Health Center to prevent potential spread and ensure proper measures and precautions are in place. It is important that individuals at higher risk for serious illness due to age or a long-term health problem take actions to reduce their risk.

Residents should stay informed and ensure they are receiving information from reliable sources. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Clay County Public Health Center offer up-to-date information on their websites and social media. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has activated a 24/7 phone hotline for the public or providers to receive information or guidance related to COVID-19. The hotline is reached at 877.435.8411. The City of Liberty will continue to provide the latest information, relating to cancellation and closure of City hosted events and programs, as it develops in order to keep our residents updated.
