[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Go Red for Women® with Liberty Parks & Rec

to celebrate Go Red for Women® and promoting heart health during the month of February.

On Friday, Feb. 6, join in the celebration by wearing red as a show of support for heart health and joining staff and patrons for a group photo at 10:45 a.m. in the lobby of the Liberty Community Center, located at 1600 S. Withers Road. Tribute cards will be on display to write the names of people you know who are struggling with heart disease or may be survivors.

According to the AHA, 80 percent of cardiac events in women could be prevented if women made heart-healthy choices involving diet, exercise and smoking cessation. The Liberty Parks & Rec Community Services Division is offering some heart-healthy choices and activities in February and beyond:

-- Going social with heart-health tips: Throughout February, the City of Liberty’s Facebook and Twitter accounts (www.facebook.com/LibertyMissouri and www.twitter.com/LibertyMissouri) will share helpful heart-health tips from the American Heart Association.
-- Eating for heart health: Healthy recipes and informational material will be available at the Community Center to help promote heart healthy living.
-- Tai Chi: Beginning Feb. 4, the Community Services Division will offer a 6-week Tai Chi class on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tai Chi is a low-impact exercise that combines continuous, gentle movements with deep breathing. It can help to increase heart and lung activity, align posture and create a sense of well-being. You can register online or in person at the Liberty
-- Free blood pressure screenings: The Community Services Division is offering free blood pressure screenings on Feb. 18 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Liberty Community Center. This is a drop in service, no registration required.
-- Free drop-in fitness class: In February and beyond, the Community Services Division offers a free drop-in fitness class to adults 60+ at 9:45 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Liberty Community Center. This low impact aerobics class utilizes bands and light weights. Chairs are provided for stability or to exercise from a seated position. No registration is necessary; please sign in at front desk upon arrival.
