[ARCHIVED] Please obey the fireworks ordinance

With the fireworks season upon us, the Liberty Police Department would like to remind Liberty residents of the City’s fireworks ordinances. It is unlawful to sell, discharge, fire or make use of fireworks in the City, with limited exceptions:

  • The discharge of aerial fireworks (those that, when ignited, are intended to reach higher than six feet in height) is lawful only from 4–10 p.m., July 3–4 on single-family residence tracts three acres or larger.
  • The discharge of non-aerial fireworks (are not intended to reach six feet in height when ignited) is lawful only from 4–10 p.m., July 3-4.
  • The City may issue special use permits to sell fireworks within Liberty — or a special permit for a public display of fireworks by properly qualified individuals under the direct supervision of fireworks experts — under certain conditions.
This year, before, during and after July 4, the Liberty Police Department asks citizens to obey the fireworks ordinances. The Police Department will be enforcing the fireworks ordinances and violators will be cited and summoned to appear in municipal court, and may be fined. Fireworks unlawfully used within the City limits are also subject to confiscation and disposal. Please help make this Independence Day safe by observing the fireworks ordinances.

The safest way to prevent fireworks-related injuries is to leave fireworks displays to trained professionals. Area residents can enjoy the Liberty4thFest July 3 and 4, including a spectacular fireworks display. The fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. at William Jewell College’s Greene Stadium. For more information about the event, please visit www.Liberty4thFest.com.
