[ARCHIVED] So what does it take to treat / clear City streets during winter weather events?

The City has 21 public works employees and nine 2½-ton dump trucks and one 1-ton dump truck with salt/sand spreaders and plows, as well as six pick-up trucks with plows that work to clear the City's 350 lane miles of roadway.

Crews work on nine sanding routes that cover primary and residential streets throughout the community. It takes crews 4 hours on average to go through each route one time. In a typical 4 inch snowfall, approximately 200 tons of salt and 300 tons of salt/sand mix are used. It takes approximately 15 hours to complete one entire pass of the City.

Residents can make it easier on crews during winter storms by parking vehicles in driveways when possible. This makes it safer and more efficient for our City crews to plow the streets when vehicles are not parked in the roadways.
