This year the 65-member band will present three Tuesday evening concerts in June on the historic Liberty Square on the plaza of the Rooney Justice Center. Concert dates are June 12, 19 and 26. All concerts begin at 7:30. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of rain, concerts take place in the theatre of the Liberty Community Center, 1600 Withers Road.
The band’s repertoire this year includes great music for bands such as marches, pops, jazz, and Broadway. A special feature on the June 26 concert will be a Tribute to Missouri Music featuring songs about Missouri places and Missouri composers.
The band also appears at Liberty’s Independence Day celebrations on July 4, Liberty4thFest, playing a concert of patriotic pieces just before the fireworks display at Greene Stadium on the William Jewell College campus.
The Liberty Summer Band is conducted by Shane Fuller, band director at Liberty North High School, and a player in the band for several years.
Liberty resident David Fulk returns for his fifth year as the band’s concert host.
This concert series is made possible by the City of Liberty’s Parks and Recreation Department, as well as Liberty Public Schools and William Jewell College.
