[ARCHIVED] The Liberty Police to Crack Down on Child Safety Seat Violations

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, three out of four child safety seats are improperly installed. Add to that, car crashes are the number one cause of accidental deaths in children. Is your child safe?

Missouri law requires all children under the age of eight who are traveling in automobiles to be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are at least 80 pounds or 4’9” tall.

The Liberty Police will be joining other law enforcement agencies September 19-25 for an aggressive Child Passenger Safety Week Campaign to crack down on Missouri’s child safety seat law violators and to reduce highway fatalities and injuries to children.

Chief Craig Knouse said regular child safety seat and safety belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.

If you want to make sure your child’s safety seat is properly installed, the Liberty Fire Department schedules car seat installations on Saturdays between 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Call for an appointment 816.439.4310.
