[ARCHIVED] Daylight Saving Time Ends Nov. 4

DaylightSavingsTimeChange-Fall-Back

The Liberty Fire Department (LFD) wants to remind you that when you change your clock, change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, a working smoke alarm increases your family’s chances of a safe escape from a fire by more than 50 percent. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.

LFD suggests you install at least one smoke alarm inside every sleeping area and one on every level of your home. But installation is just the first step in protecting your family from fires. Smoke alarms also need to be tested and maintained if they are to continue to be your family’s nose at night.

While you are checking your smoke alarm batteries, also check the date of manufacturing. Smoke alarms should be replaced when they are ten (10) years old.

In the event you are not protected by a Smoke Alarm in your residence, please contact Fire Marshal Dustin Paddack at 816-439-4310 and LFD will provide and install a smoke alarm in your residence, free of charge. We want every residence in Liberty to have a working Smoke Alarm!
