[ARCHIVED] Art Exhibit at City Hall: Darryl Chamerlain

If a trip to Florence is not in your immediate future, you can still enjoy the statue of David at Liberty City Hall through February.

The exhibit features photorealistic pastel drawings of the statue of David by Kansas City artist Darryl Chamberlain. The pieces on display are a small portion of a larger series that captures the exquisite detail of the original masterpiece by Michelangelo. Close-up images of David's head, hands and face celebrate the beauty of the human figure as well as the statue's imperfections caused by natural flaws in the marble and environmental damage accrued over its 500-year lifespan.

Chamberlain considers himself a Renaissance artist, as he is inspired by the masters of that era and appreciates their attention to detail and realistic treatment of subjects. He prefers to work with a variety of media and is currently working on a multi-media installation.

The exhibit is open to the public during City Hall's normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m
