Liberty Meals on Wheels

Our mission is to provide balanced, nutritious, and appealing meals to seniors, people with disabilities and disadvantaged populations. We strive to improve the physical and mental health of those we serve by providing, either directly or through cooperation with other organizations, a range of goods and services that improve the quality of life. Here are a few ways you can help:

• Regular Drivers
  • Deliver meals once per week to older adults in Liberty
• Substitute Drivers
  • Deliver meals as needed (about once per month) to older adults in Liberty
• Phone Buddies
  • Help combat the loneliness and isolation that some seniors feel with a phone call to lift their spirits
• Holiday Cards/Gifts
  • A simple card or craft goes a long way to brighten the day of our recipients
• Snow Squad
  • Shovel the driveway and sidewalks for home bound seniors
• Yard Clean Up
  • Help with yard work in the Spring and Summer

Coaching

Our vision is for coaches to teach basic skills and strategy through healthy competition focusing on the needs of each athlete regardless of experience. Through interactive games and drills, athletes begin to develop skills and understanding to help them progress to the next level of play. Coaches help to provide a positive and supportive environment for kids in Liberty Parks & Rec sports leagues. Coaching opportunities are available for the following sports:

• Baseball, Softball & T-Ball
  • Description: Coach will teach basic baseball/softball skills and strategy to players
  • Time Commitment: One hour a week for practice plus games
  • Minimum Age for Volunteer: 18 years old
• Recreational & Bitty Basketball
  • Description: Coach will teach basic skills and strategy to players
  • Time Commitment: One hour a week for practice and 1 game a week; November-January
  • Minimum Age for Volunteer: 18
• Flag Football
  • Description: Teach basic flag football and strategy to players
  • Time Commitment: 1 hour a week for practice; 1 game a week; August-November
  • Minimum Age to Volunteer: 21
• Recreational Soccer
  • Description: Teach basic soccer skills and strategy to players
  • Time Commitment: One hour a week for practice plus games on Saturday
  • Minimum Age to Volunteer: 18 years old
• Recreational Volleyball
  • Description: Teach basic volleyball skills and strategy to players
  • Time Commitment: 2 hours per week; 12 weeks; August-October
  • Minimum Age to Volunteer: 21

Our leagues are dependent upon volunteer coaches. If you are interested in coaching and would like to help with the program, please email or call 816.439.4392.

Adopt-A-Street

• Group or Individual
• Description: Help fight litter and keep our roadways beautiful
• Equipment: The Public Works Department will provide safety vests and trash bags for the group. Signs alerting drivers to the volunteer litter crew ahead will also be provided.

Cemetery Work Days

• Volunteer as an individual or with a group.
• Description: Liberty Parks & Rec schedules regular work days to level and reset markers, trim brush and pick up trash at Mt. Memorial or Fairview/New Hope Cemeteries. Work days are held on the 3rd Saturday of the month and run March - October from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (No work day is scheduled for July 2026).
• Equipment: Volunteers are encouraged to check the weather and dress appropriately. You may also bring your own gloves, shovels or rakes. Water will be provided.
• Notice: Work days will be cancelled if it's raining.

Team Up to Clean Up Liberty Parks

• Group or Individual
• Description: Liberty Parks & Rec is looking for individuals and groups to pick up litter in the City’s more than 500 acres of parkland and along 10 miles of trails. Join in our efforts as we team up to clean up Liberty’s Parks!  Grab a family member, friend, and/or neighbor, pick up supplies at the Liberty Community Center (LCC) then head to one of the parks.
• Equipment provided: LPR will provide trash bags to all volunteers and ask the volunteer leader to complete a waiver at the time of supply pick up. Pick up supplies at the LCC and let the clean up begin.

Storm Drain Stamping

The City of Liberty needs volunteers to help with a storm drain marking campaign. Volunteers place markers on existing storm drains in the City reminding people not to dump waste in the storm drains. If interested call 816.439.4503.
