I-35 / Kansas Street Corridor Project

In 2019-2020, the Missouri Department of Transportation, the City of Liberty and Kansas City - Shoal Creek TIF are partnering to make significant improvements to the I-35 / Kansas Street Corridor. 

The entire project is anticipated to be complete by Fall 2020. 

The improvements will include: 

  • Replacement of the bridge that spans I-35 
  • Street widening
  • Adding turn lanes. 
  • Adding a multiple-use path along the south side of Route 152 and Kansas Street, from MO-291 across the I-35 bridge.
  • Sidewalk along the north side along the south side of Route 152 and Kansas Street, from MO-291 across the I-35 bridge.

Alternate Routes

During the construction you will always have access to your favorite businesses in Liberty. There are a number of alternate routes that will get everyone where they need to go.

Project Timeline

(Subject to change. Dependent on weather and utility relocations.)

January 18, 2019 - Bids Received

February 6 - Project Awarded to Miles Excavating

Mid-March - Removal of medians on Kansas Street

June - Removal of existing bridge that spans I-35

August - Work on south side of Kansas at Blue Jay complete

September - New Bridge Complete

Fall 2019 - Work on south side of Kansas at Conistor complete

Spring / Summer 2020 - Construction of improvements at MO-291 / Kansas Street intersection and north side of Kansas at Forrest, Blue Jay & Conistor

September 2020 - Anticipated Project Completion
