Animal Shelter

COVID-19 Schedule & Operations

Due to increasing COVID-19 positive cases and hospitalizations, the Liberty Animal Shelter will be open by appointment only until further notice. For the health and safety of our staff, Animal Control officers will only respond to emergency calls until further notice.

The Liberty Animal Shelter has MOVED!

The new Liberty Animal Shelter received its license from the Missouri Department of Agriculture in February and the Animal Control division has moved into the new facility!

All the project updates, pictures and time lapse video of the construction are still available online here »

Getting to the Shelter

Staff is working to get the new address added to Google Maps. In the mean time, to find the Liberty Animal Shelter you can search for the Liberty Utilities Operation Center and Wastewater Treatment Plant in Google Maps and the Animal Shelter is located right across the street. Or follow the map below.

Adoption Rates

A significant aspect of the Animal Shelter’s operation is the importance of the spay/neuter program, as it relates to our adoptable animals. All animals adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered before going home to their owners.

Things to know before you adopt

Through close ties with Liberty veterinarians, costs for approved adoption applications are as follows:

Spayed/Neutered Animals

  • Dog
    • $80 plus the cost of a heartworm test (pets 7 months and older) and Rabies vaccination (pets 4 months and older).
  • Cat
    • $55 adoption fee for cats at the Liberty Animal Shelter plus the cost of the FIV/ Feline Leukemia test and Rabies vaccination (pets 4 months and older).

In accordance with the Missouri Animal Care Facilities Act, all dogs and cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated against rabies prior to being adopted into a new home. The Liberty Animal Shelter will not facilitate the adoption of animals to be used for breeding, or any other purpose which requires that animal to be unsterilized.

City Dog Licenses

  • $5 sterilized dogs
  • $10 unsterilized dogs
