Heritage Bench Program

The Liberty Parks and Recreation Charitable Fund is proud to offer our Park Bench Program. For $1,000, donors can purchase park benches that will be placed, with direction of the donor, at one of several pre-determined locations within the Liberty park system. Bench locations are available in most parks and along many of our trails.

This program offers individuals, organizations or community businesses the opportunity to purchase a bench as a gift for someone special or in memory of a loved one.

If you are interested in obtaining a bench, contact the Parks Maintenance division at 816-439-4384.

Who does the Installation?

The City of Liberty Parks and Recreation Department will install all benches and provide all necessary maintenance.

Why does Liberty Parks & Recreation Charitable Fund have this Program?

Liberty Parks and Recreation received requests from residents who were interested in making donation to the Parks system. Park benches provide a way to honor loved ones in a positive and beneficial manner and provide the community with amenities that may not be achievable without the help of citizens and patrons of the community.

How are Park Bench Sites Selected?

Available bench sites have been identified throughout the entire park system. As a donor you will select the park where you would like the bench installed. The Parks and Recreation Department will select the exact site within the park of your choice to install the bench. Potential bench sites are selected along our trail system or within the parks that would provide a rest station or prime view of the park or its amenities.

When are Benches Installed?

Benches will be installed within 3 - 6 months after the order is placed. If orders are placed after October 1, the benches will be installed in the spring of the following year.

What do I get for $1,000?

A park bench costs $1,000, including a commemorative plaque and installation. Benches are made of environmentally-friendly recycled plastic lumber and are installed at approved sites in the order requests are received. The City purchases, installs and maintains the benches for 10 years. If the bench becomes un-repairable after 10 years the site will be offered to a new donor. The purchaser receives a certificate stating the location of the bench once installed. The City will place a plaque displayed on the bench with the donor’s requested remembrance verbiage. Each plaque is limited to 4 lines of 40 characters on each line counting spaces and symbols.

All benches purchased through this program are 100% tax deductible
