Liberty Parks & Rec and its community partners are dedicated to providing programs that offer participants opportunities to keep your mind sharp and your body active. We offer several programs throughout the year designed for youth and adults providing opportunities for creativity and social engagement. Youth Programs
Safe Sitter Class
Safe Sitter® is designed to prepare students in grades 6 and above to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. The Instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students will learn Safety Skills, Child Care Skills, First Aid & Rescue Skills including child and infant CPR, as well as Life & Business Skills. Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR is a 6 1/2 hour class.

KC Chess Club
The Kansas City Chess Club’s certified staff will show beginners through advanced students how to improve their play. Weekly activities will include casual play, chess lessons, tactical training exercises, chess notation, National Rated competition games, Chess Openings, Middlegame Strategy, Winning Endgames, Bughouse and Fischer Random Chess. Each student will receive a chess workbook and chess medal. All levels are welcome! We specialize in teaching Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Adult Programs
Dog Obedience
Instructed by Rosemarie von Fintel, these classes are based on the Canine Good Citizen Program from the American Kennel Club. Rosemarie has more than 20 years of dog obedience experience and provides proven techniques that will benefit both you and your dog. There are beginner and advanced classes where you will work on skills needed in everyday life, house breaking, grooming, problem solving and more.

Evidence-Based Programs
Liberty Parks & Rec has expanded its FREE virtual and in-person Evidence-Based Programs! These wellness programs are scientifically proven to help you take charge of your health, manage chronic conditions, increase your physical activity and more. Check out the current program offerings, and if you are interested in some of the others, please fill out the Interest Form and a staff member will contact you within 48 hours of your submission.
