Liberty Community Christmas Tree Sorting FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions: Food Sorting

What are the times for sorting food?

Dec. 5 and 6 from 6-8 p.m.

Are reservations required?

Yes. Due to overwhelming response, we do request that all volunteers sign up in advance. Reservations can be made online and will require a phone number.

Do you require a minimum time commitment?

No, we do not. However, for groups with grade-school-aged children, we request no longer than one hour.

How many people can I Bring?

Our sorting space can accommodate up to 100 people per day. First come, first served.

Do you need individual volunteers?

Most definitely! We only request that you schedule your visit in advance.

Can young children volunteer?

Yes! We welcome children ages 6 and up, but do require adult supervision. For safety purposes, please do not bring children under the age of 6. For groups of children:
  • Ages 6 to 8 - 1 adult for every 3 children
  • Ages 9 to 11 - 1 adult for every 5 children
  • Ages 12 to 15 - 1 adult for every 10 children
  • Ages 16 and over - no supervision required

Can you accommodate volunteers with special needs?

Yes. Please let us know about your individual or group’s special needs when making your reservation.

Can I bring food to donate?

That would be great! Volunteers can bring non-perishable food donations for the Liberty Community Christmas Tree program when they come to volunteer. All food must be donated by Wednesday.

Do you have refreshments available for volunteers?

No, we do not.

Can our group bring food to eat?

Due to the limited amount of space and the large number of people, we ask that you do not bring food or beverage of any kind to be consumed while sorting food.

What should I wear?

We suggest comfortable, warm clothing. Open toed shoes are not allowed. While the hall is heated, it is not as warm as a typical office or home; we suggest dressing in layers.
